Magazine cover layout pre-feedback, pre-photographs

This is the layout of my front cover of my magazine. I've tried to use conventions regularly seen in grime/hip hop magazines and magazines as a whole. The genre based conventions include colours which connote 'edginess' and 'danger' for example the red and black colour scheme I use. I also try to be creative with my use of font for the masthead, using the word 'Grime' vertically standing and 'Jungle' horizontally. In regards to magazine conventions; I've used common ones such as using barcodes, putting social media and website links and outlining a main cover story over the other ones. I've also used a consistent colour scheme throughout the magazine pages of black/red/white. Magazine covers rarely change their colour scheme throughout the publication. Once I add the photos I have taken to my publication, I hope it will look like an authentic grime magazine cover. Thanks to my research, I will use my photo in a way which relates to conventions. For example, I will put my model covering parts of the masthead like I have seen in many other publications.

Magazine Front Cover Draft w/ Feedback

I handed in my magazine front cover draft to my teacher. He commented on the use of my background (a brick wall) and said it wasn't suitable due to the lack of this seen on other magazines of the same and similar genres of music. Because of this, I'm considering to change to a more plain, opaque background. My teacher liked the use of creativity in the title, however, the use of colour in relation to the background wasn't clear visibility wise. Because of this, I'm going to try and correlate the title with the background in order to create a good colour scheme. My production piece was also criticised due to the lack of conventions used in terms of story titles. For example, I'd write the page numbers, which isn't a common conventions for magazine's on a whole, never mind music or Grime magazines. Due to this being pointed out, I will not use these in my next draft and my final production. Another criticism of my work is that my model is looking away from the audience by facing sideways. This goes against common magazine conventions. I will amend this by taking more pictures of my model, this time facing the way of the camera. Overall, I am going to make drastic changes to my final production piece in terms of front cover. These include changing the background of my magazine, making some adjustments to my font and using a more suitable picture.

Blog Evaluation

Our task was to evaluate a blog from a past Media AS Level student. We had to analyse what he did well, as well as what he didn't do well. I analysed the way he put his work into sections, as well as the layout of his blog. After setting out some positives and negatives about his post, I compared his blog to a Media AS Level student from a different year to see how they contrasted. I was able to see the difference in two different blogs. This will help me with my final blog as I can take advice from what I can see.
